IPTV Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to watch the bouquet of channels offered by Africast on my television?
You will need our Set-Top Box, a subscription to Africast TV, and a broadband Internet connection (DSL or Cable). Contact your local Internet service provider for the broadband connection.

What is IPTV and how does it work on my TV set?
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is TV to TV using a standard broadband Internet connection. This makes it possible for over 93% of the world's broadband Internet users to receive Africast TV's channels on their television. Using IPTV, the video stream is delivered to your home television over any broadband internet connection. This means that if you already have a high-speed internet connection, such as DSL or cable, you're probably ready to go - all you need is our set-top box.

Are there any minimum requirements?
A broadband internet connection (DSL or cable with a 1Mb minimum download speed), a modern television with video inputs/SCART or similar. By adding Africast TV's set-top box all the functions normally viewed on a PC will be viewed on your TV without complicated browsers.

Can I browse the internet with my TV?
Yes, using the web or browse button on your set top box remote control you are presented with an address bar where you can type in web addresses. You can either use the optional infrared keyboard or the text facility on the remote control. Some remote controls also feature a simple joystick built in for moving the mouse around the screen making the experience easier to operate and more enjoyable.

I am getting a picture but it is jumpy, blocky or freezes.
Africast TV plays at different connection speeds. It is worth checking your line speed by going to the following link and running a simple line speed check: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest. You need a genuine line speed of at least 700kbps but for best results 1300kbps is preferred.

Who is behind Africast TV?
Africast TV, a subsidiary of Africast Global Media, Inc., is the world's leading subscription-based broadcaster of African television channels over broadband Internet, as measured by the number of African broadcast channels under agreement (mostly exclusive) -- over 36 channels as of April 2007. For more information please visit the About Us section of this website.

Can I subscribe to Africast IPTV with the Africast pre-paid card?
No. The Africast TV Pre-paid cards are only for viewing online. You can however subscribe with a prepaid electronic pin number which is currently offered at selected retailers. Send us an email to: admin@africast.com and we will direct you to the nearest location where prepaid electronic pin numbers are sold. The current payment options for Africast IPTV are: credit cards, Paypal, cash (money order or Western Union), or prepaid electronic pin number.

Can I watch Africast programs on my TV and PC for one subscription?
No. They are two separate media systems, and as such, require two separate subscriptions.

How long does it take to ship the Set Top Box (STB)?
Set-top boxes are shipped within 24 hours of payment. Standard shipping charges for ground shipping is $14.99 and 2nd day shipping is $34.99 in the continental United States and Hawaii. If the set top box is going abroad then the standard charge is $25.00. If the customer destination warrants a higher shipping charge or the customer wants the box faster, we will notify him/her of any pertinent additional charges before shipment. We always use the most cost effective method to ship to our customers.

How long will it take for the STB to reach me?
That depends on where you are located. It usually takes 3 to 4 days, by ground, within the continental United States. If you live outside of the US, let us know where you are located and we will give you an estimated delivery time.

If I am an existing Africast TV Online subscriber watching on my PC, how do I either switch to IPTV, or add IPTV to my current subscription?
If you want to switch from Africast TV Online to Africast IPTV, you simply cancel the online subscription, purchase the set top box and sign up for Africast IPTV on our subscription page and start to watch Africast channels on your television instead of your PC. If you want to continue watching on your computer and also add watching on your TV, all you have to do is simply purchase the set top box and sign up for Africast IPTV.

Are you currently running any promotions?
Yes. For a limited time only, we are offering the following promotion:
Get a Free Set-top Box with a one year subscription to the Basic or Premium Service
OR
Pay half price ($62.50) for a set top box and get the first month service Free.
For more details, please visit our subscription center.

Can I use my broadband Internet connection "teed" to both the Set Top Box and to my computer at the same time? In other words, can I be watching TV while using my computer?
Yes, you can use multiple devices on your broadband Internet connection even though you don't need a PC to watch Africast TV. Many end users have some home network in place so the Set Top Box becomes just another device on the network. The end user needs to know that if they have multiple devices on the network then they may see buffering on the television signal coming out of the Set Top Box because there are too many devices fighting for the network bandwidth.

Will there be any extra charges upon delivery of the set-top-box to my country of residence?
This depends on the taxation and customs brokerage fees imposed by your country of residence. These fees are country specific, and cannot be controlled by Africast. For more information please contact the Customs and Border Services for your country of residence.
